Completely freaks the crap out of me...
I just don't think I can do it. I tried the eharmony thing and actually met a guy on
it that seems nice and sweet and who actually lives NEAR me (unlike most of my matches that are from 60 million miles away!) matches with my qualifications (age, height, religion, no kids, has a job - as a side note I don't get why eharmony asks you do put in your requirements if they are going to continuosly IGNORE them???) and who wants to meet me in person (and is willing to come to me and to take me to lunch) but the idea of meeting someone off the internet FREAKS THE CRAP OUT OF ME!
LOL I keep thinking that they will all be ax murderers, serial rapists, stalkers and will follow me home...so I just don't think I can do it. Don't get me wrong...like I said this guy seems like a nice guy and I have enjoyed e-mailing with him (plus he was one of the few who was willing to get to know me online first before meeting).
Maybe it is my job...I deal with too many weird and psycho people. Maybe once you have heard MULTIPLE stories of abusive and crazy people plus have a restraining order against one of them yourself (longer story for another day) you just can't get past it. But now my problem is that this nice sweet guy wants to meet me this weekend...up until now I have been saying ok...but the idea makes me feel physically ILL...so now I think I need to get out of it...

If you were to meet him, or someone else at some point in the future, I would suggest a public place, like a Starbucks.
I would also suggest telling someone where you'll be and when, as well as giving them copies of the guy's emails and his contact info.
I actually know a couple of people who have successfully met guys via online dating. Nice, normal men. One of the women actually had her minister call the guy's minister and asked him all sorts of questions about the guy, his church participation, etc. The woman's minister ALSO interviewed the guy too, just to get a feel for his personality.
It all worked out and they've been happily married for a couple of years now.
Thanks for the advice Jen! It is all really great info...the funny thing is he goes to the church that I used to go to. It's huge so we never met each other. Like I said he seems like an ok guy. I will definately have someone aware of who I am meeting and when were I to ever meet anyone off the internet.
I think I have to do this - meet him I mean - the things in life that are hard for you are the things that make you stronger right! (Plus the incentive of having my mom off my back about meeting someone is huge!)
